Fire on tanker in Istanbul extinguished before it grows In the Sea of Marmara, a fire broke out on a Panamanian-flagged ship. With the intervention of the Coast Guard rescue teams, the fire was extinguished before it spread to the entire ship. The fire broke out in the Panamanian-flagged 118-meter tanker. On board the ATA VOYAGER, a fire was reported off the coast of Küçükçekmece, Istanbul. RESCUE-6, RESCUE-9 and RESCUE-12 tugs and KEGM-6 and KEGM-3 lifeboats were dispatched to the area. The fire in the Marmara Sea Küçükçekmece ship anchorage area was intervened in a short time. As a precautionary measure, anchored vessels were removed from the area. For reasons yet to be determined, the fire in the engine room was prevented from spreading to other sections first. Then the extinguishing and cooling works began. The fire on board the ship, with 24 crew members on board, was extinguished without anyone being injured.
